On September 8th, 2020, the VODAN Africa team consisting of the Executive Coordinator, Prof. Francisca Oladipo and the Nigerian team lead, Dr Sakinat Folorunsho and other global AI experts will be addressing the largest gathering of Women in Artificial Intelligence (WAI), the WAI summit themed “Bringing All Minds Together”.

Prof. Oladipo and Dr. Folorunso will be addressing more than 3000 attendees from over 40 countries on the “Science of FAIR Data: The new science of making data Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Reuseable (FAIR)” at one of the sessions during the global summit.

The FAIR principles emphasize machine-actionability (i.e., the capacity of computational systems to find, access, interoperate, and reuse data with none or minimal human intervention).

Under the coordination of Prof Oladipo, the VODAN Africa Initiative has been able to deploy 6 machine-actionable FAIR Data Points (FDPs) that allows algorithms to find COVID-19 data over the internet.

The WAI Summit is a transformative platform that is on a mission to increase female representation and participation in AI, and a community-driven initiative bringing empowerment, knowledge and active collaboration via education, research, events, and blogging. It boasts of more than 4000 members across over 115 countries.
